Alvaro Lario, President of International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a specialized agency of the United Nations, has praised Bangladesh for its highest performance in terms of expenditure and consumption, measures taken to improve the quality of life of the rural population.
On Wednesday (February 7), the ambassador of Bangladesh appointed in Italy. IFAD president praised Monirul Islam as permanent representative of International Agricultural Development Fund at the presentation ceremony.
Alvaro Lario noted Bangladesh's significant achievements in food production, climate-smart agriculture and inclusion of women and youth in development activities. He also mentioned Bangladesh's ability to implement various programs and projects.
The Ambassador expressed his sincere thanks to the IFAD President for officially accepting him as IFAD's Permanent Representative and expressing his appreciation of Bangladesh's achievements.
IFAD and Bangladesh have had deep ties for over 45 years and Bangladesh was one of IFAD's first member states. The Ambassador appreciated the IFAD President's experience and deep knowledge of working in IFAD and other reputed international organizations, which are contributing to improving the quality of life of people in rural and marginalized areas around the world.
Besides, the ambassador highlighted the remarkable achievements of Bangladesh in the agriculture sector besides describing the continued development of Bangladesh under the charismatic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Organized at IFAD headquarters in Rome, Italy, the event concluded with the hope of both Bangladesh and IFAD working closely together to eradicate hunger and poverty and improve rural livelihoods on the basis of inclusive development.
