The effects of N Nino will be active till February 2024. Such is the demand of American meteorologists. Due to this, food shortages may occur all over the world.
An El Nino wave is mounting in the Pacific region. Due to which the rainfall is decreasing. It has already begun to have an impact in South East Asian countries including India. But the suffering does not end here. The United States warned that greater danger was to come.
There is no reason to think that El Nino's effects will end this year, according to the US Weather Service. Its effect will remain till February next year.
As a result, the possibility of drought conditions in South East Asian countries including India is considered to be high.
According to a group of American meteorologists, El Nino will have the greatest impact on China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Philippines, Thailand and Bangladesh. These countries may experience the lowest rainfall in the last three decades. As a result, the farmers here will face the biggest problem.
Note that 90 percent of the world's rice is produced in these countries of South East Asia. The US administration fears that the rice yield may die at a severe rate under the influence of N Nino. It has been warned that food shortages may also occur in these countries of the world if El Nino continues until next year.
Indian Institute of Science researcher J Srinivasan agreed with this forecast of America. He claimed that if there is a shortage of rainfall in August, it could create a drought situation across the country. At present, El Nino is active in the country, he said.
However, even if the drought situation is created, the problem will be much less in India, according to American researchers. They claim that India's irrigation system is better than other countries. As a result, even if the situation is bad, the farmers here can handle it.
By the way, El Niño is actually a Spanish word. Which means little boy. La Nina on the other hand means little girl. Water temperatures in the upper Pacific Ocean were cooler last year. Meteorologists call it La Niña. But this year the opposite situation has developed.
This year, the surface waters of the Pacific Ocean have become unusually warm, creating El Nino. Because of this, the hot air is blowing over the sea unhindered. which prevents water vapor-laden air from entering the land surface. And because of this the rainfall is decreasing. Meteorologists said that El Nino effects are usually seen the year after La Nina.
